OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A statewide burn ban on all lands in Washington protected by the Department of Natural Resources went into effect Friday.

The ban on outdoor burning extends through September to help prevent wildfires.

The department is responsible for fighting wildfires on nearly 13 million acres of state, tribal and private forestland in Washington.
