Long shot Tamarind Hall wins Bed o’Roses

NEW YORK (AP) — Tamarind Hall took charge with a quarter of a mile to go and won the $150,000 Bed o’ Roses Handicap by 5 1/4 lengths over Kid Kate at Belmont Park on Sunday.

The 4-year-old filly won for the fourth time in her past five starts for trainer Jeremiah Englehart.

Sent off at 15-1, the filly ridden by David Cohen returned $33.80, $13.80 and $53 to show. Odds-on favorite Hilda’s Passion finished sixth, creating the large show pool payout.

Kid Kate returned $17 and $53.50, and Spa City Princess paid $64.50 to show.

Winning time for seven furlongs was 1:23.82.

In a pair of races for 2-year-olds, 14-1 shot Jack’s in the Deck ($30.40) won the Futurity by four lengths over Team Six and Millionreasonswhy ($15.80) won the Matron for fillies by two lengths over Say a Novena.
