WASHINGTON (AP) — The Chicago Cubs recalled right-hander Casey Coleman from Triple-A Iowa to start Monday’s Fourth of July matinee against the Washington Nationals.

Coleman was summoned after scheduled starter Ryan Dempster was hospitalized over the weekend in Chicago with stomach and back pain.

Cubs manager Mike Quade says Dempster is day-to-day but is expected to make another start before the All-Star break.

Coleman was 2-4 with a 7.78 ERA in 10 games in two previous stints with the Cubs this season.

To make room for Coleman, reliever Chris Carpenter was optioned to Triple-A Iowa.
