SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Three fans have been injured by a flying baseball bat during a game between the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants, including one woman who was sent to the hospital with a head injury.
All three were sitting above the Padres’ dugout along first base Tuesday night when Giants slugger Pablo Sandoval took a swing and lost control of his bat in the first inning, sending it sailing into the stands. The bat bounced off the dugout roof and struck all three.
A Giants spokesman said the woman was taken to a hospital as a precaution. She was holding her head with a towel as she was escorted out in a wheelchair.
One man was hit around the eyebrow and a second in the shin. Both received treatment at the stadium.
