AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. (AP) — Police confiscated 5 pounds of cocaine and 10 pounds of tobacco that someone tried to smuggle into the Airway Heights Corrections Center by throwing it over the fence at the prison west of Spokane.

KXLY reports police were alerted by a 911 call from a woman who reported a man had thrown a garbage bag over a gate.

Police Chief Lee Bennett says officers secured the area in minutes, and the contraband did not fall into the hands of inmates.

Police and prison officers are questioning prisoners who might have had access to the drop zone.
