BEND, Ore. (AP) — A search and rescue training exercise in the East Butte area east of Bend turned into a real rescue after an ATV accident.

The Deschutes County sheriff’s office says the driver crashed on rocks Thursday afternoon, and the ATV landed on top of him.

Fortunately there were two deputies and eight other volunteers, including two medics, at the scene. They provided first aid to the Bend man. He was airlifted to St. Charles hospital in Bend and is expected to recover.
