BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — Police say they have a suspect in the shooting death of a woman in her Bellingham apartment.

Detectives were on their way to the suspect’s home at Clinton Thursday when one received a voice mail from the woman about the killing and saying by the time they found her she would be dead.

Detectives eventually found her on a beach near Langley bleeding from self-inflicted cuts to her wrists. She was flown to a Seattle hospital for surgery and is expected to survive.

Bellingham police believe the 40-year-old woman shot Kriston A. Dunya, whose body was found Tuesday. They say the suspect had a relationship with Dunya’s estranged husband and the shooting was possibly motivated by her desire to keep him from losing custody of his 7-year-old son.
