NEW YORK (AP) — Alex Rodriguez has pulled out of the All-Star game, joining his New York Yankees’ teammates Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera in missing the midsummer classic.

Rodriguez was elected by the fans to his 14th All-Star appearance. He is nursing a sore right knee. A-Rod is being held out of Friday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays and was sent for an MRI.

Jeter pulled out of Tuesday’s game in Arizona earlier Friday to rest his injured right calf. Rivera has not pitched since Sunday because of a right triceps injury and a day ago said he will not participate.

Rodriguez tweaked the knee against the Cubs at Wrigley Field on June 19. Despite hitting .359 with 10 RBIs in his last 16 games, Rodriguez he has not homered in 85 at-bats.
