SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A South Korean lawmaker says her ruling party and its main opposition have agreed to push for a team of athletes from both North and South Korea at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

Grand National Party lawmaker Lee Doo-ah said Sunday that senior officials agreed last week to “try to lay the groundwork” for a joint inter-Korean team.

Lee said no further details were immediately available.

Tension between the rival Koreas remains high after the North bombarded a South Korean island last year, killing four people.

The countries haven’t fielded a joint Olympic team before. But their athletes marched together at the opening of the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics.

Pyeongchang’s province borders North Korea.
