CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox have placed catcher Ramon Castro on the 15-day disabled list because of a broken right hand and index finger and recalled Tyler Flowers from Triple-A Charlotte to take his place.
The White Sox announced the moves before Sunday’s game against Minnesota.
Manager Ozzie Guillen says he expects Castro “to be out for a little while because that’s his throwing hand.”
Castro was injured trying to catch a pitch from Mark Buehrle in the eighth inning Saturday against the Twins and left the game. He was batting .235 with four home runs and 10 RBIs in 23 games.
Guillen says Flowers will play a similar role backing up A.J. Pierzynski. Flowers was hitting .261 with 15 homers and 32 RBIs for Charlotte.
