SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Spokane police chief has fired a detective accused of interfering with a state wildlife officer.

The city says the incident was part of a pattern of behavior by Det. Jeff Harvey who has a troubled work history.

The Spokesman-Review reports Harvey faces a misdemeanor charge of obstructing law enforcement for refusing to let a Fish and Wildlife officer question some teens in his pickup truck who were suspected of shooting after legal hours in January north of Spokane.

The termination letter delivered to Harvey’s home Wednesday also notes discipline over his 24-year career for using excessive force, harassment, abusing sick leave, and making false allegations about a supervisor.

The Spokesman-Review was unable to reach Harvey or his lawyer Thursday for comment. He has 10 days to appeal.
