MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Police say a mother and four children who were pulled from a burning house in Oregon were slain.

Authorities said Monday medics treating the victims on the lawn of the small house found some of the victims had been stabbed.

The father of the family was also taken to the hospital and was under police watch.

Police Chief Tim George says the man has not been charged but is not allowed to leave the hospital.

George characterized the fire as arson and the deaths as homicides.
