MADRAS, Ore. (AP) — Rescuers are searching for a man who apparently fell into the Lower Deschutes River and was swept downstream.

KTVZ-TV in Bend reports that witnesses told sheriff’s deputies Sunday night that they saw the man in the water, heading downriver past the boat launch at the campground.

The initial search was hampered by darkness. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Capt. Marc Heckathorn said searchers on Monday would be scouring the river banks while others worked on the water in kayaks, inflatable boats, drift boats and motorized boats.
