INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A.J. Foyt says he will use Honda engines during the 2012 IndyCar season.
The four-time Indianapolis 500 winner says he believes Honda gives his team more consistency and a better chance to reach Victory Lane next season. Honda has been the series’ sole engine manufacturer since 2006. IndyCar teams will have the option of also choosing Chevrolet or Lotus next season.
Foyt and Target Chip Genassi have already announced they will use Honda. Roger Penske’s team is going with Chevrolet.
Foyt also says he would like to add a second car to his garage next season and has identified two or three drivers it might hire if he can find the sponsorship. Brazil’s Vitor Meira has been the primary driver for Foyt’s No. 14 car since 2009.
