CENTRALIA, Wash. (AP) — The levee system along the Skookumchuck River in Centralia is getting a $267,000 makeover.

The Army Corps of Engineers says they’ve started construction on 865 feet of damaged levees at three sites in the Centralia area.

A flood in December 2007 backed up the river, causing damage to the levee system, including erosion and seepage. Repairs are expected to be completed by mid-August.

The Corps is paying 80 percent of the cost for repairs and the City of Centralia is paying the rest.
