China leads women’s 3-meter semifinal at worlds

SHANGHAI (AP) — China’s Wu Minxia qualified first in the women’s 3-meter springboard semifinal at the world championships.

Wu totaled 360.65 points for the five-dive round Friday, with Jennifer Abel of Canada second at 359.35.

The Chinese have won all seven gold medals awarded so far, with three events remaining.

Wu’s teammate, He Zi, was third at 358.05.

Emilie Heymans of Canada, the silver medalist two years ago in Rome, was fourth. American Kelci Bryant was fifth and teammate Christina Loukas sixth.

The top 12 advanced to the final Saturday.
