KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Alcides Escobar, the only Kansas City player to be in all 99 Royals games this season, has left in the sixth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays because of a bruised right shin.

The shortstop was injured Friday night when Tampa Bay’s Sam Fuld slid into him while breaking up a double play in the fifth inning. Escobar is day-to-day.

Escobar was replaced at shortstop by Mike Aviles, who was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.
