OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Athletics have signed pitcher Sonny Gray, the 18th overall player taken in this year’s draft.

Gray went 12-3 with a 2.12 ERA at Vandebilt while helping the Commodores to the semifinals at the College World Series. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound right-hander had 124 strikeouts with 46 walks in 119 innings and allowed only four home runs.

The A’s plan to send Gray to Arizona for conditioning and may have him pitch in the Rookie League before heading to Double-A Midland (Texas League) in August.
