PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — One potential Republican candidate to replace Democratic Rep. David Wu in northwest Oregon isn’t running.

Oregon state Sen. Bruce Starr of Hillsboro tells The Associated Press he doesn’t want to give up family time with his children, ages 12 and 14.

But businessman Rob Miller said Tuesday he’s “seriously considering” a race and will make a decision within days. He’s president of a Portland company that makes preserves and jellies.

The two are among several mentioned by Republicans. Two Democrats are already running to succeed the seven-term representative who resigned Tuesday.

There will be a special election. Gov. John Kitzhaber says he’ll set a date when he gets a formal resignation letter.
