DA: No grand jury in slaying until dad recovers

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — A district attorney says he will not present evidence to a grand jury in the slayings of an Oregon mother and her four young children until it is clear the father will survive smoke inhalation that has left him unconscious.

Jackson County District Attorney Mark Huddleston told the Mail Tribune newspaper Monday the evidence in the case has been gathered, and the witnesses are known, but the prognosis for Jordan Criado remains uncertain.

Criado has been in critical condition — unconscious and on a mechanical ventilator — in a Medford hospital the past week, since he and the rest of his family were pulled from their burning home.

Autopsies showed his wife and two of the four children were stabbed and the other two suffered smoke inhalation.
