Woodland — Teacher Kimberly Knudson received a scholarship to attend the NYSE Euronext Teachers Workshop from July 11-15 at the New York Stock Exchange and Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C.

This is the first year that the program gave scholarships to teachers specifically from Title 1 schools. Only 200 teachers from the United States were chosen. Knudson applied after she learned of the program through a world-wide stock market game she would use for her students. The workshop has been going on for 24 years, giving teachers materials to present to their students, covering capital, new market technology and financial literacy.

She previously taught at Woodland Intermediate School but will be transferring to Yale Elementary School near Cougar this school year. She will be teaching K- through second-grade. As not to waste her opportunity, she will teach stock market and financials to the fourth- and fifth-graders, as well.
