ABERDEEN, Wash. (AP) — A Washington Corrections Department spokeswoman says an inmate at a prison near Aberdeen has been found dead in his cell. Spokeswoman Sheri Izatt says staffers found 54-year-old Daniel Johnson unconscious Wednesday morning with a bag over his head at the Stafford Creek Corrections Center. Medical staff were unable to resuscitate him and a staff doctor pronounced him dead.
The Grays Harbor sheriff’s office is investigating the death and the county coroner’s office also responded. Stafford Creek will conduct a separate investigation.
The spokeswoman says Johnson began his prison sentence in 1993 after he was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder in Lewis County. He was scheduled to complete his sentence in 2015. He was housed in a minimum security unit.
