A fire destroyed the garage of an Amboy-area home at 38310 N.E. 172nd Ave. on Wednesday afternoon, but firefighters stopped it before it heavily damaged the home itself.

No one was injured.

Fire District 10 received the call at 12:52 p.m. and arrived about 10 minutes later to find heavy flames in the home’s attached garage, said Battalion Chief Gordon Brooks.

Fire District 13, based in Yacolt, also responded to help District 10, which is based in Amboy.

Two adults and a teenager who live there had exited the home safely.

In the end, the garage was gutted. Few flames had reached inside the home, but the home’s interior sustained extensive smoke damage, Brooks said.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and to have started in the garage.

Damage to the garage and its contents were put at $120,000, Brooks said.

Clark County deputy fire marshals were investigating the cause.

Volunteers with the local Red Cross chapter were offering to help the family.

The house is owned by Warren and Valerie Gardner, according to Clark County property records.
