Jiao wins women’s 200 butterfly at worlds

SHANGHAI (AP) — Jiao Liuyang of China led from start to finish to win the women’s 200 butterfly at the world championships.

Jiao, the Olympic silver medalist, finished in 2 minutes, 05.55 seconds on Thursday. Ellen Gandy of Britain took the silver in 2:05.59.

Olympic champion Liu Zige, in second for all but the final 20 meters of the race, was third with a time of 2:05.90.

Liu, the defending champion from Rome in 2009, is the world record holder at 2:01.81.
