COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) — Oregon homeowners in Cottage Grove say the smell from a field used by the city sewage treatment plant is nearly intolerable this summer, and they’re complaining.
Craig Pataky and his wife Heidi are among the upset homeowners.
They told The Register-Guard they’re talking to an attorney about a possible class action lawsuit and they’re trying to organize a letter-writing campaign to let city and county officials know how many people are affected.
They’ve also filed complaints with the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency, where officials said they are considering them.
City officials say bacteria and other compounds in the biosolids left over after sewage has been treated are well within limits set by the state regulators and pose no biological threat. But they’re taking steps to reduce the odor.
