EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Renovation costs are expected to increase $600,000 for the police headquarters building in Eugene, pushing the total cost to about $16.6 million.
The Register-Guard reports the renovation will cost more than expected in order to provide a safe and efficient building, while making other needed changes, such as replacing the roof, the heating and cooling system, and improving insulation.
The city could have avoided some additional cost by constructing holding cells and interview rooms in the building instead of in the underground parking garage.
But police wanted the cells, interview rooms and other features in the garage for security reasons.
