US wins 4×200 freestyle relay at worlds

SHANGHAI (AP) — The United States led at every turn and change to win the women’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay at the world championships.

Missy Franklin, Dagny Knutson, Katie Hoff and Allison Schmitt took gold on Thursday in a time of 7 minutes, 46.14 seconds.

Australia, with its team of Bronte Barratt, Blair Evans, Angie Bainbridge and Kylie Palmer, was second in 7:47.42.

China, which won gold at the last world championships in 2009 in a world record time of 7:42.08, finished third Thursday in 7:47.66. Chen Qian led the home team followed by Pang Jiaying, Liu Jing and Tang Yi.
