ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos have signed their final rookie holdout, third-round draft pick Nate Irving, a linebacker from North Carolina State.

Irving, who overcame near fatal injuries from an auto accident in 2009, will compete for the starting middle linebacker job.

The Broncos also are trying to beef up their ground game, and are focused on free agent running back Willis McGahee, who was Ray Rice’s backup in Baltimore the last two seasons.

McGahee, who worked with Broncos running backs coach Eric Studesville while both were with the Buffalo Bills from 2004-07, would share snaps with Knowshon Moreno.

He would also take pressure off Kyle Orton should the Broncos not trade their starting QB. Miami seems to be out of the Orton sweepstakes after reportedly luring free agent Matt Moore.
