ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals catcher Gerald Laird left Thursday night’s game against the Houston Astros in the bottom of the second inning after hurting his hand sliding into home plate.

Laird appeared to hook his hand on the foot of Houston catcher Carlos Corporan.

Laird, who started a two-run rally in the second with a single, was replaced by Tony Cruz.

Yadier Molina, the Cardinals’ starting catcher, was given the day off.
