EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Coach Tom Coughlin wants to hear sincerity from Plaxico Burress in their first face-to-face meeting since the former New York Giants receiver and Super Bowl hero was imprisoned for almost two years on a weapons possessions charge.

With the soon-to-be 34-year-old Burress looking to rejoin the Giants, Coughlin planned to enter his Friday night meeting with an open mind.

It was scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at Giants headquarters, but there was no word whether it had started.

Coughlin, who has not spoken with Burress for almost two years, says this will be an opportunity for him to let Burress speak. He plans to listen, go over what was said and then report back to management and say whether two can work together again.

The meeting came as the new-look Giants opened training camp, minus several veterans who were released earlier in the week.

Coughlin and Burress had a rocky relationship during their first tenure between 2005-09, but they also experienced success, including a win over New England in the Super Bowl in February 2008.

Less than a year later, Burress shot himself in the leg in a New York nightclub. He was jailed the following September and is now trying to revive his career after being released from prison June 6.
