PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — About a third of a million dollars remains in the campaign coffers of Oregon Rep. David Wu, who says he’ll resign when the debt limit debate is resolved.
Even after he leaves office, Wu can keep control of the money. He can’t use it for personal purposes, but he can donate it to charity, return it to donors or give it to other campaigns and groups. He’s announced no plan to dispose of the money and so far, there’s no indication contributors have asked for their money back.
Wu had been elected to seven terms and planned to run for an eighth until a published report about his aggressive sexual encounter with a teenage girl.
The most recent report shows Wu with $343,000 in campaign cash on hand.
