ASUNCION, Paraguay (AP) — Gerardo Martino has resigned as Paraguay’s soccer coach, days after leading the country to the Copa America final.

The Argentine said Friday he was dissatisfied with the team’s progress since last year’s World Cup, where he guided Paraguay to the second round. Paraguay lost to Uruguay 3-0 in Sunday’s title game of Copa America, the South American championship.

Martino reportedly will be replaced by Francisco Arce, coach of the Paraguay club Rubio Nu.

Martino was a candidate to become Argentina’s national coach team, but that job will be filled by Alejandro Sabella, the former coach of the Argentine club Estudiantes.
