JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars have voted unanimously to re-certify as a union.
A representative from the NFL Players Association led a half-hour meeting Friday to discuss reforming as a union. All 1,900 NFL players must take a majority vote to approve returning the NFLPA to union status. It was dissolved March 11, turning the NFLPA into a trade association.
Once it’s back to being a union the NFLPA can finish negotiating the contract, covering remaining items such as player discipline, drug testing, disability programs and pensions.
The Jaguars voted even though six players, including holdout tight end Marcedes Lewis, were missing from training camp. Lewis and five exclusive rights or restricted free agents faxed in their signed union cards.
