Monday is the beginning of World Breastfeeding Week, and with it comes local events.

World Breastfeeding Week, which runs Aug. 1-7, highlights the benefits of breast-feeding. This year’s “Talk to Me” theme emphasizes the role of family, friends and community in supporting breast-feeding families.

The Clark County Breastfeeding Coalition is sponsoring these local events:

• A breast-feeding tent Saturdays and Sundays during the Clark County Fair (Aug. 5-14)at the Kids Park, Clark County Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield.

• The Big Latch On, an international contest to have the most moms simultaneously nursing, 10 a.m. Aug. 6 at the Clark County Fair breast-feeding tent and Santé Mama, 113 N.E. 92nd Ave., Vancouver.

• Educational display at Three Creeks Community Library, 800-C N.E. Tenney Road, in Vancouver.

Breast-feeding mothers now have greater support in the workplace, thanks to new federal health regulations that require employers provide reasonable break time and private places to express milk. Clark County Public Health is helping local businesses comply with the new laws.
