SEATTLE (AP) — The Mariners activated Erik Bedard off the disabled list to start against the Tampa Bay Rays and designated Jack Cust for assignment.

Seattle announced the moves before Friday night’s game.

Cust hit .213 with 15 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs and 23 RBIs in 67 games for the Mariners, who signed the 10-year veteran to a one-year deal for $2.5 million during the offseason.

The designated hitter also played for Oakland, San Diego, Colorado, Baltimore and Arizona. He has career .242 average with 105 home runs and 323 RBIs.
