US wins 4×200 relay at world championships

SHANGHAI (AP) — The Olympic champion United States 4×200-meter freestyle relay team anchored by Ryan Lochte has won gold at the world swimming championships.

The Americans, including Michael Phelps, Peter Vanderkaay and Ricky Berens, finished in a time of 7 minutes, 2.67 seconds.

Lochte, who has three individual golds at these championships, took the Americans into the lead after France had led for much of the race.

France, with Yannick Agnel, Gregory Mallett, Jeremy Stravius and Fabien Gilot, was second in 7:04.81. China — Wang Shun, Zhang Lin, Li Yunqi and Sun Yang — took bronze in a time of 7:05.67.
