PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon State Board of Higher Education has named a Western Oregon University administrator as interim president of the university.

Mark Weiss has been executive vice president of finance and administration at Western Oregon, joining the university in Monmouth in 2005.

Weiss succeeds John Minahan, who announced his retirement on July 13, after serving as president since 2005.

Weiss will serve as acting president during Minahan’s upcoming vacation, and will make the transition to interim president by the start of fall term.

Officials said the appointment is through next June.
