Cincinnati Bengals start new era with big problems

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (AP) — The Bengals started a new era in their history on Friday, opening training camp without Carson Palmer and Chad Ochocinco for the first time in nine years.

It wasn’t a good start.

The Bengals are coming off one of the worst offseasons in franchise history, which is saying a lot. Players got arrested, and Palmer decided he’d rather retire than play another year in Cincinnati.

More setbacks rolled in on Friday. Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer was outwardly glum after cornerback Johnathan Joseph decided to sign with Houston. Backup cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones can’t fully practice for at least a few more weeks because of a bad neck. And linebacker Keith Rivers is out for a while, too, recovering from wrist surgery.

The big hits keep coming for the Bengals.
