Letter: Tougher DUI law is warranted

The Columbian

I read with interest the July 24 editorial “Tougher DUI law.” Having your car impounded is a small price to pay for driving while drunk.

As an orthopedic surgeon, I spent 40 years patching the ravaged bodies that incurred as a result of drunken drivers. When I went to the emergency room in the middle of the night, well over 50 percent of those cases involved drunken drivers. Often the driver was fine. It was the innocent that suffered damage or death.
