Tropical Storm Eugene swirls in Pacific Ocean

MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Eugene is gaining strength in the Pacific Ocean but remains far from the coast of Mexico.

U.S. forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Sunday afternoon that the storm’s center was 415 miles (670 kilometers) off the coast of Acapulco, Mexico. It was moving west at 9 mph (15 kph) and was projected to remain far from land.

Maximum sustained winds were at 45 mph (73 kph).
