SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The Salem Fire Department has determined that a pasty material found at the office of U.S. Rep. Kurt Schrader is not dangerous.
Salem fire spokesman Reed Godfrey says an office employee opened a letter Monday morning and found something resembling paste on his hand.
Office staff called 911 and the fire department ran tests on the substance, determining it was harmless.
Traffic in the area was redirected briefly.
Godfrey says the letter was bagged and turned over to the FBI.
