2 killed in high-speed crash near Aumsville

AUMSVILLE, Ore. (AP) — The Marion County sheriff’s office says two people from Stayton were killed in a high-speed crash near Aumsville.

Witnesses told deputies a car was passing another car Tuesday night when it went out of control, flew into the air and hit a tree nearly 8 feet off the ground.

The driver, 20-year-old Erika Espell, died at the scene. One 22-year-old passenger, Ikaika Kaaihue, died at a Salem hospital. A 20-year-old passenger was treated at a Salem hospital and released.

The sheriff’s office says alcohol was involved and no one in the car appeared to be wearing a seatbelt.
