JOLIET, Ill. (AP) — Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne said he feels fine behind the wheel as he gets ready to resume racing following a long layoff caused by a mysterious illness.

The 20-year-old Bayne said his goal Saturday night in the STP 300, a Nationwide series event at Chicagoland Speedway, is simple: to win the race.

Bayne hasn’t raced since April 23. And even though he spent time at the Mayo Clinic, doctors still weren’t exactly sure what caused his illness, terming it an inflammatory condition. Symptoms included impaired vision.

He’s been cleared and had hoped to race last week at Charlotte, but Roush Fenway Racing officials wanted to hold him out one more week.
