HEPPNER, Ore. (AP) — The town of Heppner in Eastern Oregon was hit by minor flooding that covered some bridges and briefly caused the evacuation of one school.
The East Oregonian reports the worst damage from the Thursday flooding was at the fairgrounds, affecting the pavilion, rodeo grounds and football field.
Heppner Elementary School sits below the fairgrounds and was evacuated to the Heppner Junior-Senior High School as a precaution but water never reached the school grounds.
Heppner sits at the bottom of the Blue Mountains where Willow, Hinton and Balm Fork creeks all meet. The Willow Creek Reservoir held back some of the waters, but many people above the dam saw some flooding.
