KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — There have been 399 starts. And 399 checkered flags.
Chris Showalter has been there for all of them. On Saturday at Kansas Speedway, he’ll be there when the green flag drops for the 400th NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.
Showalter, the truck chief for Travis Kvapil’s No. 5 Toyota, is the only person to be involved in every race on the circuit.
“It’s been a very cool run to be here for 16 years and 400 races,” Showalter says.
Over those 16 years, the series has evolved into a proving ground for Nationwide and Sprint Cup drivers — some of whom still race trucks from time to time — as well as raising its own crop of veterans.
