SHERWOOD, Ore. (AP) — Police say the suspicious death of an 11-year-old Oregon girl in the Portland area is now being investigated as a homicide.

Sherwood police said officers and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews were called to a house Thursday afternoon after a report of an injured child.

The girl was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The mother of the victim was also transported to the hospital for self-inflicted wounds.

Police did not release any names or other details.

The investigation is being conducted by the Washington County Major Crimes Team.
