AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Mitchell Pitts was solid for seven-plus innings, and Texas State scored three runs on sacrifice flies to beat Princeton 3-1 in an elimination game in the Austin Regional on Saturday.

Pitts (6-3) allowed one run and six hits in 7 1-3 innings in the win for Texas State (41-22), while Joseph Dvorsky got five outs for his seventh save.

Mike Ford (5-4) gave up three runs and nine hits in 7 1-3 innings for Princeton (23-24).

The Bobcats scored a run in the fourth on Andrew Stumph’s sacrifice fly, and added two more in the eighth on sacrifice flyouts by Bret Atwood and Kyle Kubitza.

With one out and the bases loaded, Princeton’s John Mishu scored on a sacrifice fly by Steve Harrington. But Dvorsky pitched out of a bases-loaded jam to end the threat.
