COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Cory Mazzoni struck out 12 and scattered four hits over eight innings as North Carolina State stayed alive at the Columbia Regional with a 5-2 victory over Georgia Southern on Saturday.

Mazzoni (6-6) was dominant from the start and topped 90 mph throughout on a sweltering day at Carolina Stadium. He struck out six of the first 11 batters he faced as the Wolfpack (35-26) face another elimination game Sunday.

Danny Canela had his second homer of the regional for North Carolina State.

Victor Roache, the nation’s home run leader with 30, was 2-for-4 including a double off the wall in the first for Georgia Southern (36-26), which lost its fifth straight. Roache came up with two outs in the eighth and the Eagles down a run, but Mazzoni got him to fly out.
