PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — Officials are debating whether to increase winter access to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park next year.
The park made the popular winter destination accessible seven days a week during this past winter, after the community helped raise money to cover the costs. Hurricane Ridge typically operates on a limited winter schedule during the snowiest months.
The Peninsula Daily News reports that visits to Hurricane Ridge were up during the 2011 winter by 12 percent when compared with a five-year average.
The increased winter access — which lasted from Dec. 17 to March 31 — is intended to give Port Angeles and the North Olympic Peninsula a tourism boost.
