RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) — The man shot and killed by Richland police Sunday has not officially been identified, but a Lewiston woman told the Tri-City Herald it was her son, 27-year-old James Dean Schultz, a Yakima Valley resident.

Josie Arreola of Lewiston also said he was in a stolen car when police confronted him.

Neighbors said they heard multiple shots and saw police pull a body from a car.

Capt. Jeff Taylor said the suspect died at the scene. Some other people at the scene were detained for questioning.

The Tri-City Special Investigation Unit is investigating.
